John De' Mathew is well known to his Kikuyu fans as the Prophetic singer. He is very popular due to his talent in song composition and reality of the messages he sends across, from political songs 'Ruhiu rwa Baba' to love songs ' Njata Yakwa', to what may be even considered gospel music 'Ngai he Namba'. The controversial artist was charged with hate speech in 2014, due to his song 'Wituite Hiti', where he was found not guilty.He has continued to receive love from his fans in his shows, campaign and broadcast station rallies and is also loved for his connections with prominent people like the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.
He started his music career in 1985, singing Swahili songs and in 1987 he released the love song 'Peris Nduku' which was received warmly by fans, starting off a career whose success could only be imagined at the time.
